Vatican Staircase

Shot at the Vatican Museum in Rome. This staircase is so famous, every photographer that's been to Rome has a multitude of shots of it. I've seen it on the cover of more than one book. It's beautiful! I so wish I had a different lens, wide angle preferably(FYI...never go to Europe without a wide angle lens!) All my Europe shots are on a 50mm lens, sometimes it was in my favour but mostly not.
f 3.2 1/125sec ISO 1600.

Fort Rodd Hill

Went on a photo shoot out at Fort Rodd Hill yesterday. Here are some shots of volunteers who work very hard to preserve history by re-enacting different aspects of Military and Navy life in days gone by.

Green

This was shot at Government House at f 4.0 1/160 ISO 100. On a tripod. I think it's time to start changing my settings on my camera. I love shooting wide open, on aperture priority at f 4.0, which is as wide as my 70-200mm zoom goes, but I think I better shake things up a bit, try a few different apertures.

Pika

Any of you that know me well, know how much I love dogs and photographing them.  This is one of my favorite photos.....taken many years ago with film. I sat out in the snow with my grey card for ages trying to get the perfect exposure of a white dog in the snow.

Pika is a Great Pyrenees. She is a working dog on a sheep ranch in the Quesnel B.C. area and belongs to a wonderful friend of mine.

I miss film...digital is great but I have say I think film is better.

One awesome son!

Here is a picture of William that I just love. He's always game to have his photo taken but he's not always relaxed in front of the camera. Here he is chillin, relaxed and looking like a pretty cool dude. This totally captures him.
Shot at f 8.0 1/160 sec ISO 100 handheld with a 70-200 zoom.

Blue

This is a canoe at West Bay Marina. Shot at f 4.0 1/200 + 0.33 ISO 100 on a tripod. I really like it but....probably should have used a deeper depth of field to get more detail in the nose and beyond.....I wanted it to stand out a bit more. I'm really starting to love abstracts.

Victoria Gin Photo Shoot

Yesterday our photography club went to visit "Victoria Gin" a distillery on the Saanich Pennisula. WOW!!!! What a great experience, learning about stills, gin production, the still is copper and exquisitely beautiful to photograph. I wish I had a wide angle lens but I made due and got some good shots. I could have spent hours there taking photos. The light was low so a tripod was essential. At the end we got to taste the gin and a few other products they produce. I'm a gin lover from way back and nothing compares to this.
Thanks to Victoria Gin and Peter Hunt for their warm welcome to our club and a lovely visit!
