Savoy Cabbage

I love food as much as, if not more, than photography. So taking pictures of food is my newest interest. I've discovered this plethora of Food Blogs with the most amazing photography and Bloggers who talk as much about photographing the food as making it, fascinating on so many levels!
I bought this Savoy cabbage simply to photograph it...it's so exquisite.
Shot at f11.0 2.0sec ISO 100 on a tripod of course. Overcast daylight from a west window. I'm very happy with the results!

Nice, France

Just like the song says"Everything is nicer in Nice". Such a charming and picture perfect place. No shortage of rich people and money there!!! Although the uber rich are down the road in Monte Carlo. Some pictures from there will follow...it too is picture perfect. I think all of France is!

Menton , France

There will be a bit of a theme going on for the next little while, photos of the South of France and Paris. A photo friend is travelling there this spring and this is a great way to share my photos with him.
Menton is a little fishing village a stones throw from Nice.
This was shot at f4.0 1/200 ISO 100 on a 50mm lens. No photoshopping, no enhancing (although uploading photos to the Blog doesn't always do them justice, this photo is much 'peachier' on my screen, but what the hay, Blog's are a free way of sharing!)

Paris, France

Another favorite Paris shot. I pretty much was chasing these two French ladies holding hands and carrying their "Channel" shopping bags...people kept walking between me and my camera and them. It was a perfect Paris photo op, if only I had a different lens or had a bit more paparazzi in me, but never-the-less I'm happy with what I got.

Florence, Italy

The Basilica di Santa Croce.
Shot at ISO 200, F2.8, 1/100, on a 50mm lens. Hand held, no flash.
I love how the blue and yellow plays off all the grey . You can click on the photo to make it larger and see all the detail. The ceilings and floors of these churches are as impressive as the art they contain.

Shake, rattle and roll

Here is "Rain". She is a service dog extraordinaire. Today I took her for a walk at Dallas Road and the waves were fantastic. She LOVES the water and I got some great shots of her in the waves. This one really made me LOL. Shot at f4.0 1/1000 at ISO 100.

Macaulay Point

Here is a photo, one in colour and one in B&W, at Macaulay Point, where I regularly walk my dog. I highly recommend this beach, park, boat launch, dog park and old military site for taking photos. There are so many different vistas and fabulous lighting.
I bought a new lens a 70-200 f4.0 IS L series for my Canon XT. This was shot at f4.0 ISO 100 at 1/1600. So far I love this lens. If you have the inclination let me know if you like the colour or B&W better. You can always comment by using the anonymous in the drop down box for 'comments' and sign your first name to the comment, unless of course you'd rather remain anon. Thanks a bunch!

Cafe in the French Riviera

I'm hard pressed to say what my favorite drink was on holidays, wine, beer or coffee. European coffee is unbelievably divine!! I guess the truth be told that if it was before 4pm I'd say coffee, if it was before dinner I'd say beer and if it was dinner I'd say wine.

Gay Paree

I made Michael hike all over this area in Paris trying to get a shot of the Eiffel Tower that was a bit different. He was a great sport and this was probably my last shot I took and along with one other shot of Michael under the tower it's my favorite. I love that the skyline is just visible and the throngs of tourists are viewing and photographing the tower while this one fashionable French man is walking away, across this patterned terrace.
Shot at f8 1/400 ISO 400 on a 50mm lens.

Winter kelp

I shot this kelp in the afternoon when I was out walking our dog Beau. The light was lovely and golden. I usually don't shoot on angles, because I always forget too, but I do like angle shots. This was f 4.0 1/200 ISO 400 shot at 17mm on my 17-85mm zoom lens.

Gillian

This was taken at Saxe Point Park on a cloudy afternoon. I shot it on my 17-85mm zoom at 85mm. f 5.6 1/60 at ISO 400. I like the softness of the photo and how Gillian's hat blends in with the sky.

Rainbow in Rome

When we came out of the Colosseum after a huge wind and rain storm there was this rainbow, unfortunately I only had my 50mm lens with me and what I really needed was a wide angle lens but I did what I could and got this shot from the top of a double decker bus. f5.6, 1/400, ISO 200 and no photoshop enhancements.

Victor

This is Victor. He is a huge horse, 17 hands, for those horsey people out there. He is part of the therapeutic riding program at Providence Farm in Duncan, B.C. This was shot on 'auto' f4.0 1/250 ISO 1600 with a 50mm lens. Horses I've learned aren't the easiest to photograph, they're not like dogs where you say "cookie" and you get their attention and great expressions. I'm pretty pleased with this shot, Victor worked with the camera!!

Tuscany in the evening

I shot this photograph from the edge of the walled city of Siena. More of that lovely fog rolling in. The light was changing by the second. This was shot at F1.8 1/50 at ISO 1600 on a 50mm lens.

Ponte Vecchio at night

This is the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence, Italy. I shot this at f14.0 , 6 sec,  ISO 800 on aperture priority with a 50mm lens. On a gorilla pod that my good friend Penny lent me. I highly recommend them.

Venice

This was my first absolutely breathtaking view of Venice. It was foggy the whole time we were there and it made for a dreamy and magical quality to my photos. Venice exceeded both Michael and my expectations in every way. It is BEAUTIFUL!! I have many, many Venice photos and I love every one of them. I could easily go to Venice with my camera and take pictures non-stop, 16 hours a day for a week.

Gingerbread

Think I'll shake things up a bit with my photos, some Europe, some local, some portraits, you get my drift. This was taken at the Habitat for Humanity fundraiser at Laurel Pointe Inn. They had quite a few different entries but this was my favorite. It's shot through a glass window at f4.5, 1/250, ISO 1600, using a 50mm lens. Currently my 50mm f1.8 lens is my favorite, although that might change as I'm buying a new lens this coming week.

French Leeks

This shot taken at a Saturday morning market in Paris  at f5.6  1/125 and ISO 800.

Have you ever seen such clean leeks?

Saint-Paul de Vence

Saint-Paul de Vence is a medieval village in Provence. There are art galleries galore and these three photographs of art are works that decorate the streets.

Olives in the south of France

We recently took a trip to Europe and I'm going to start my Blog with some photos from that trip. Here is a shot of olives growing in Glenda's garden. That is the Mediterranean in the distance.
